Electrospun Media Production Improvements

During the 2021 summer, I worked on improvements for the production of nanofiber media also called Nanoweb®. Nanoweb®, Hollingsworth & Vose’s proprietary nanofiber technology, is designed to significantly enhance particle capture efficiency at a minimal increase in pressure drop, compared to traditional nonwoven products. These are made from very fine fibers, typically below 500 nm in diameter (about a thousand times smaller than a human hair), and the properties of these nanofibers allow us to meet submicron air and liquid filtration needs.

My project was to investigate methods to improve the process and products that utilize Nanoweb® technology. I designed, fabricated, and assembled experiments to carry this out, and then ran production tests and characterized the results. My learnings have been applied in new and current Nanoweb® product developments.
